Since December 30, 2019 geoip database isn't downloadable from MaxMind. See https://blog.maxmind.com/2019/12/

Should we create an account for IPFire and distribute the files from the IPFire servers? This would demand some update mechanism for the server and the IPFire installations also. Latter is implemented, I suppose, and has to be changed accordingly.

No, we cannot do this.

I have read through the new EULA which is very difficult for us - which probably is what is intended. We won't ask our users to consent to this (because it probably takes an account for each IPFire instance) and we cannot guarantee that we will delete the old databases very swiftly.

It has been a long time coming that we won't be able to use the MaxMind databases any more. Luckily we have prepared for this and libloc is on the way.

OK. And in the meantime no GeoIP blocking is possible for new installation. Is that right?

Yes, that is correct. You can copy the database from an older installation.

We will ship the oldest version of the database that is under Creative Commons as a quick fix with c140 and we will hopefully be able to provide a better solution with the following update.
